The Space Station Design Workshop (SSDW) 2016 was a one-week, team-based systems engineering program at the Institute of Space Systems (IRS), University of Stuttgart, with sessions led by faculty including ESA astronaut Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Reinhold Ewald. Students from universities across Europe were split into competing teams and worked through a full mission design cycle — mission analysis, subsystem design, utilization planning, systems engineering, and project management — over the course of the week.

As part of “Team Red,” developed the Prometheus Programme: a cis-lunar space station concept enabling on-orbit manufacturing as a foundation for further expansion of human presence into space, providing a long-term, manned habitat that builds on ISS expertise and technology to support utilization of lunar resources.

Ranked among the competing teams at the co-located SpaceUp Stuttgart student unconference, and received the Space Station Design Workshop 2016 award and certificate.
